Position Summary
Anne Arundel Community College is seeking a dedicated and experienced Part-Time Clinical Dental Hygienist to support the clinical education and training of dental hygiene students. This position plays a vital role in providing hands-on instruction, ensuring compliance with clinical protocols, and promoting excellence in patient care within the college's dental hygiene clinic.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, mentoring, and patient-centered care. Responsibilities include supervising students during patient treatment, reinforcing proper instrumentation techniques, ensuring adherence to infection control and safety protocols, and providing constructive feedback to enhance student learning. The Clinic Dental Hygienist will collaborate with faculty and staff to maintain high clinical standards, assess student competency, and contribute to a supportive learning environment.
Candidates must possess a current Maryland dental hygiene license, including certification in local anesthesia and nitrous oxide administration. Prior teaching or clinical instruction experience is preferred. Pay rate: $1,170-$1,263/FLH
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Student Supervision & Instruction • Supervise and mentor dental hygiene students in a clinical setting, ensuring they develop the necessary skills to provide high-quality patient care. • Provide hands-on training in various dental hygiene procedures, including prophylaxis, periodontal therapy, sealant application, fluoride treatments, and patient education. • Ensure students adhere to infection control protocols, OSHA and HIPAA regulations, and ethical and legal standards in patient care. • Encourage students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in clinical decision-making.
Patient Care & Clinical Operations • Oversee student-provided patient care to ensure safety, effectiveness, and adherence to professional standards. • Provide direct patient care when necessary to support clinical operations and enhance the learning environment. • Ensure clinical areas are clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary instruments and supplies. • Monitor the proper operation and maintenance of clinical equipment, reporting issues to the appropriate personnel for timely resolution.
Student Evaluation & Documentation • Assess student performance through observation, feedback, and competency evaluations, ensuring skill development and professional growth. • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of student attendance, performance, evaluations, and patient records. • Prepare and submit reports on student progress, identifying areas for improvement and additional support.
Collaboration & Program Development • Work closely with faculty and staff to coordinate clinical scheduling, student assignments, and patient management. • Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and discussions to support curriculum development and continuous improvement of the program. • Assist in the implementation and refinement of clinic policies and procedures to uphold the highest standards of education and patient care.
Professional Development & Continuous Learning • Stay current with advancements in dental hygiene, clinical instruction, and best practices through ongoing education and professional development. • Engage in training sessions, workshops, and conferences to enhance instructional techniques and keep pace with industry standards. • Act as a mentor and role model, fostering a positive learning environment
Required Qualifications:
1. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program.* 2. Current Maryland Dental Hygiene license. 3. Certified to administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide. 4. Current CPR/BLS certification. 5. Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as a practicing dental hygienist. 6. Previous teaching or mentoring experience in a clinical or educational setting preferred. 7. Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. 8. Knowledge of dental software (e.g., Dentrix, TalEval) and electronic health records preferred. 10. Recommended to have Professional Liability Insurance
